This training aims to provide behavioral health treatment providers with the latest evidence and best practices on how to address the issue of dual use of combustible cigarettes and e-cigarettes among their clients. Dual use is a common and complex phenomenon that poses significant challenges for treatment and recovery. Individuals may have higher levels of nicotine dependence and psychiatric comorbidity and are at greater risk for lung and heart diseases than those who exclusively vape or smoke. They may also have different motivations, expectations, and experiences with both products, and may face various barriers and facilitators to quitting either or both. We will also discuss the best practices for assessing, educating, motivating, and supporting these individuals to make a change in their nicotine use.
