Trauma and substance use disorders, which includes tobacco and nicotine dependence, have a strong, often cyclical, relationship, where trauma exposure increases the risk of developing substance use disorders, and substance use can worsen trauma symptoms. This presentation will review key principles in trauma-informed care and explore how a trauma-informed care approach can be applied to tobacco and nicotine dependence treatment with people in recovery from other substance use disorders.
