The ON PAR Online Training can assist behavioral health programs and service providers to treat tobacco and nicotine dependence on par with other substance use disorders and mental health conditions. This self-paced training addresses specific treatment barriers and challenges to integrating tobacco and nicotine dependence treatment in behavioral health settings. It consists of four modules that provide research-based information and evidence-based strategies for addressing tobacco and nicotine dependence treatment with individuals in treatment for substance use disorders and mental health conditions.
- Module 1 (65 minutes): Rationale for addressing tobacco and nicotine dependence with individuals in treatment for substance use disorders and mental health conditions
- Module 2 (45 minutes): Bio-psychosocial model of tobacco dependence and evidence-based tobacco and nicotine dependence treatment
- Module 3 (20 minutes): Applying the "Stages of Change" model to tobacco and nicotine dependence treatment
- Module 4 (80 minutes): Overview of motivational interviewing and strategies for working with individuals in the early stages of change regarding tobacco and nicotine dependence
Objectives
1. List barriers and facilitators for addressing tobacco and nicotine dependence with individuals in behavioral health treatment.
2. Identify 4 specific research-based reasons for addressing tobacco and nicotine dependence with individuals in treatment for and recovery from behavioral health conditions.
3. Describe the bio-psychosocial model of tobacco dependence and how it applies to helping individuals quit using tobacco products.
4. Describe the "Stages of Change" model and apply the concepts to tobacco and nicotine dependence treatment.
5. Identify and practice 3 motivational interviewing strategies used in the early stages of change for treating tobacco and nicotine dependence.

CEUs
Applications have been submitted for LADC, LMHC, and LCSW/LICSW CEUs.
