Massachusetts FASD Coordinator

The Institute for Health and Recovery (IHR) is a statewide service, research, policy, program development and capacity building agency. IHR designs its services based on an understanding of the impact of trauma. IHR’s CARF accredited treatment programs provide holistic interventions for hard to reach and high-risk individuals and families. IHR’s mission, since our founding in 1989, has been to develop and support a comprehensive continuum of care for families, individuals, youth, and pregnant and parenting women affected by alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, violence/trauma, mental health challenges and other health issues, while advancing principles of health equity and social justice. Our work is focused on addressing and eradicating inequities in our health care, economic, and justice systems, especially as they disproportionately affect women and people of color. We are committed to providing services and creating communities that mitigate the effects of substance use, mental illness, and trauma.

Summary Statement

The Mass. FASD Coordinator position is funded by the Mass. Dept. of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Addiction Services. The position is central to statewide technical assistance, training and resources on prevention, identification, and intervention of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.

This is a part time, 24 hour/week position.

Reports To

Executive Director

Essential Functions

  • Provide FASD prevention/identification/interventions training and technical assistance to Mass. BSAS programs, including the FASD Learning Collaborative in BSAS-licensed residential programs
  • Provide FASD training (in person/virtual) to applicable state agencies DCF, BSAS, DYS, other state agencies, and interested providers (Early Intervention, In Home Therapy (CBHI), Schools, Parents’ groups, etc.)
  • Coordinate Mass. FASD State Task Force
  • Engage with and promote the massFAS parents’ support/advocacy group and update database of families
  • Promote FASD-informed services and approaches
  • Keep updated on FASD publications and approaches
  • Develop and maintain a database of FASD-informed programs, services, etc. in Massachusetts
  • Maintain/update the website and regularly post on massFAS FaceBook
  • Be the Massachusetts affiliate of the national FASD United (formerly NOFAS) with participatory responsibilities therein
  • Update IHR FASD materials/handouts as appropriate
  • Collaborate with statewide developmental disability agencies to promote FASD-informed services
  • Communicate regularly with IHR’s main office in Cambridge

  • Master’s degree preferred in Social Work, Psychology, or related field of study
  • Previous experience in training, consultation, and technical assistance.
  • Previous experience with FASD and the field of addiction/behavioral health.
  • Experience in being pro-active to facilitate systems change
  • Curriculum development experiencey

Other Requirements (If Applicable)

  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and regular access to a reliable vehicle; work related travel is reimbursed
