Women’s Treatment System Specialist

IHR’s CARF accredited treatment programs provide holistic interventions for hard to reach and high-risk individuals and families. Our mission is to develop a comprehensive continuum of care for individuals, youth, and families affected by alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, violence/trauma, mental health challenges, and other health issues.

Summary Statement

The Women’s Treatment System Specialist will provide training and technical assistance to substance addiction programs serving women, on issues relevant to substance use, trauma, and recovery, and will provide training to programs in evidence-based practices. This position requires regular state-wide travel. Works closely with IHR team and staff of the state’s Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS).

This is a half-time 24 hours/week position and is based in IHR’s Cambridge office.

Essential Functions

  • Provide training and consultation on gender-responsive approaches, and on serving pregnant and parenting women affected by substance use disorders, to providers serving women and children across MA
  • Develop resources including empowerment framework, training and consultation to SUD system serving women affected by SUD and their children, including child welfare, mental health, corrections, maternal-child health and hospital-based systems.
  • Respond to requests from BSAS for planning and development of emerging and ongoing projects.
  • Work on system-building for women in need of SUD treatment; support for collaboration across multiple systems serving women and families
  • Work closely with other IHR programs addressing women’s treatment to coordinate capacity building and training efforts
  • Documentation on systems integration/capacity building initiatives throughout MA treatment system
  • Communicate with IHR’s main office in Cambridge through use of shared online calendars, sign in – out board, time sheets, and check in/out with supervisor;
  • Attend team and agency staff meetings;
  • Regular attendance and punctuality is required

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Advanced degree in social work, public health, or related field preferred
  • Previous experience developing and documenting written materials for providers
  • Previous experience working with women affected by SUD, and their children
  • Understanding addiction treatment and mental health systems of care
  • Understanding evidence -based practices that address co-occurring disorders among women and families
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural groups
  • Energetic and flexible; ability to work well independently and as part of team
  • Statewide travel; must have regular access to a reliable car and valid driver’s license
