Family Outreach Worker

The Institute for Health and Recovery (IHR) is a statewide service, research, policy, program development and capacity building agency. IHR designs its services based on an understanding of the impact of trauma. IHR’s mission is to develop a comprehensive continuum of care for families, individuals, youth and pregnant and parenting women affected by alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, violence/trauma, mental health challenges and other health issues. IHR’s CARF accredited treatment programs provide holistic interventions for hard to reach and high-risk individuals and families.

Summary Statement

The Family Outreach Worker will support the Project Promise, a new innovative substance use day treatment program and IHR’s mission to develop a comprehensive continuum of care for pregnant and parenting women with children up to one year of age. The Family Outreach Worker will work closely with SPARK and BMC staff on all family activities.

Essential Functions

  • Performs a needs assessment and develop a strategic plan to engage families, particularly Fathers and clients recovery and treatment services
  • Perform outreach to the community
  • Facilitate parenting groups with families of clients, engaged in project PROMISE
  • Assist families to identify and access community treatment, support, and other resources
  • Coordinate closely with other Project Promise staff including children’s services
  • Work with collaterals and other professionals involved with client
  • Identify community resources to support families in accessing recovery support, relapse prevention, and parenting support services
  • Meet regularly with Supervisor for supervision
  • Communicate with IHR’s main office in Cambridge through use of shared online calendars, sign in–out board, time sheets, and check in/out with supervisor;
  • Attend team and agency staff meetings;
  • Regular attendance and punctuality is required

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Familiarity with community-based resources to support recovering parents; ability to work effectively with diverse cultural groups.
  • Experience in community outreach and building community relationship
  • Understanding of substance use disorder in recovery
  • Good organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong administrative organization and ability to maintain complete and accurate records. Self-starter with ability to work independently

Other Requirements (if applicable)

  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and regular access to a reliable vehicle;
  • Business class rider on motor vehicle insurance, if transporting clients (Reimbursable; required within one month of start of job)

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit: stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally products and supplies weighing up to 10 pounds.
