Outpatient Clinician

The Institute for Health and Recovery (IHR) is a statewide service, research, policy, program development and capacity building agency. IHR designs its services based on an understanding of the impact of trauma. IHR’s mission is to develop a comprehensive continuum of care for families, individuals, youth and pregnant and parenting women affected by alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, violence/trauma, mental health challenges and other health issues. IHR’s CARF accredited treatment programs provide holistic interventions for hard to reach and high-risk individuals and families.

Summary Statement

The Outpatient Clinician will provide home- and clinic-based behavioral health counseling to clients, including older adults and parents involved with the Department of Children and Families, in the Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville areas.

Essential Functions

  • Provide home-and community-based outreach, engagement, and family treatment to individuals, youth, and families utilizing the approaches of Attachment, Self-Regulation, and Competency (ARC), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and other evidence-based models;
  • Assess strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences and complete comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessments based on the MSDP model;
  • Develop service and treatment plans addressing current functioning, substance use, mental health symptoms, trauma, relapse prevention, and recovery support;
  • Help clients identify and access community services, natural supports, and other resources;
  • Collaborate and coordinate care with other service providers and natural supports involved with the client, including attending meetings, as appropriate;
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical and billing records and reports;
  • Attend team and agency staff meetings;
  • Regular attendance and punctuality is required;

  • Advanced degree in Social Work or related field; Clinical license required with ability to bill Medicare (LCSW or LICSW only);
  • Previous clinical experience in the field of addictions and co-occurring issues is preferred;
  • Previous experience with child welfare and/or juvenile justice systems is preferred;
  • Familiarity with community-based resources in the Cambridge/Somerville/Boston areas;
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural groups;
  • Experience in home-based services, community outreach and case management activities;
  • Exceptional time management skills, with ability to manage caseload and schedule to meet weekly productivity requirements;
  • Strong organizational, record-keeping, and communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently;
  • Bi-lingual/bi-cultural (Spanish/English) candidates strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and regular access to a reliable vehicle;
  • Business Class Rider on Motor Vehicle Insurance, if transporting clients

This position requires the ability to occasionally products and supplies weighing up to 10 pounds.
