Family Recovery Clinician

The Institute for Health and Recovery (IHR) is a statewide service, research, policy, program development and capacity building agency. IHR designs its services based on an understanding of the impact of trauma. IHR’s mission is to develop a comprehensive continuum of care for families, individuals, youth and pregnant and parenting women affected by alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, violence/trauma, mental health challenges and other health issues. IHR’s CARF accredited treatment programs provide holistic interventions for hard to reach and high-risk individuals and families.

Summary Statement

The Family Recovery Clinician will support IHR’s mission to develop a comprehensive continuum of care for families, children, adolescents, and adults who are affected by alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, mental health problems, and violence/trauma by providing clinical and psycho educational services for pregnant and parenting women at 3 Peer Recovery Centers, in partnership with a Peer Recovery Mentor.

Essential Functions

  • Work closely with identified Peer Recovery Centers to identify elements needed in curriculum
  • Design curriculum for Pregnant and Parenting Women to be delivered at Peer Recovery Centers.
  • Integrate evidence-based practices into curriculum and treatment with families, including Motivational Interviewing (MI), Attachment Self-Regulation and Competence (ARC), Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Nurturing Program (NP), and Seeking Safety (SS)
  • Work closely with IHR’s Parenting/Child Development Team, Trauma Integration Team, and Parenting/Trauma Trainers for Peer Recovery Centers to ensure all needed elements are addressed within curriculum
  • Provide psycho educational group services at Peer Recovery Centers as needed
  • Provide clinical consultation and Technical Assistance to Peer Recovery Centers as needed
  • Engage families in trauma-informed substance use and co-occurring disorders treatment, providing counseling and therapeutic services at homes and community locations.
  • Maintain timely clinical records utilizing IHR’s Electronic Health record and MSDP forms, as well as DPH ESM forms.
  • Maintain updated license and required certifications
  • Supervise project Peer Recovery Mom
  • Communicate with IHR’s main office in Cambridge through use of shared online calendars, sign in – out board, time sheets, and check in/out with supervisor;
  • Attend team and agency staff meetings;
  • Regular attendance and punctuality is required

  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field, required.
  • Experience in curriculum development preferred.
  • Experience with families affected by Substance Use Disorders strongly preferred
  • Experience in family-centered substance-use and mental health treatment, children’s developmental and mental health services
  • Skills in Motivational Interviewing, strengths-based, trauma-informed service delivery preferred
  • Knowledge of Peer Recovery Centers, agencies and services a plus
  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team
  • Must have regular access to reliable vehicle and valid MA drivers’ License
