MSW Macro Intern

IHR’s CARF accredited treatment programs provide holistic interventions for hard to reach and high-risk individuals and families. Our mission is to develop a comprehensive continuum of care for individuals, youth, and families affected by alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, violence/trauma, mental health challenges, and other health issues.

Summary Statement

The Institute for Health and Recovery seeks committed first/second year macro intern for Fall to assist and work with the MA FASD State Coordinator.

Essential Functions

The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Initiative Intern will assist the MA FASD State Coordinator with the following projects:

  • Engage with state legislators to advocate for adapting the federal definition of developmental disabilities in Massachusetts.
  • Engage with families/individuals affected by an FASD to promote legislative goal
  • Reach out to parents/developmental disabilities/advocacy groups to engage them in systems change
  • Update massFAS FaceBook and massFAS.org pages
  • Learn about FASD and participate in trainings in various contexts
  • Participate in MA FASD Task Force

Macro interns must act in accordance with rules promulgated by the code of ethics of the National Association of Social Workers and IHR.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • First year/second year student interested in macro social work field.
  • Ability to work at the community and systems-level with families impacted by FASD
  • Interested in learning about the community and working with individuals and/or families from many cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Interested in working with substance use/or trauma–related disorder program
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and take initiative
  • Must possess polished, mature communication skills
  • Strong work ethic, highly organized with a fine attention to detail
  • Willingness to submit to a background check
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age
