Youth Specialist

IHR’s CARF accredited treatment programs provide holistic interventions for hard to reach and high-risk individuals and families. Our mission is to develop a comprehensive continuum of care for individuals, youth, and families affected by alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, violence/trauma, mental health challenges, and other health issues.

Summary Statement

The Youth Specialist for Healthy M.E. will support IHR’s mission to develop a comprehensive continuum of care for women, adolescents, and their families who are affected by alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, mental health problems, and violence/trauma.

NOTE: This is full-time 40 hours position and is based in Malden, Mass.

Project Coordinator; Healthy M.E.

Essential Functions

  • Deliver selected direct prevention interventions (groups) for youth, using culturally appropriate prevention curricula identified through the needs assessment.
  • Assist in developing and conducting community needs assessment.
  • Deliver culturally competent counseling and case management to youth on HIV and substance use risk reduction and treatment.
  • Provide intensive case management for participants and their families in need of HIV and/or STD testing, counseling, substance use treatment, and any other health or human services.
  • Assist in developing social media messages and campaigns to reach youth and parents with prevention messages.
  • Participate in Workgroup meetings.

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, human services, or related field.
  • Previous experience in youth services required, additional experience with addictions preferred
  • Knowledgeable about clinical issues of youth development, family disruptions and youth substance use, mental health, and HIV issues
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural groups
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Self-starter, able to take initiative
  • Experience working with diverse ethnic and cultural communities
  • Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends, to meet youth, families, and community partners as needed
  • Bilingual in Spanish / English preferred

Other Requirements (if applicable)

  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and regular access to a reliable vehicle;
  • Business Class Rider on Motor Vehicle Insurance, if transporting clients (within one month of start of job)

The employee frequently is required to sit: stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
