MassFAS Development Associate

The Institute for Health & Recovery is a nationally-renowned, award-winning agency that specializes in innovative services, training and evaluation focused on addressing the unique needs of underserved families, women and youth. IHR’s CARF accredited treatment programs provide holistic interventions for hard to reach and high-risk individuals and families. Our mission is to develop a comprehensive continuum of care for individuals, youth, and families affected by alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, violence/trauma, mental health challenges, and other health issues.

Summary Statement

MassFAS is an advocacy group founded by the Institute for Health & Recovery and the Mass. FASD State Coordinator, with parents and statewide stakeholders. We envision a Commonwealth in which all individuals with a Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) have full access, throughout their lifetimes, to all the supports and services they require to be contributing, productive, and fulfilled members of our community, to the fullest extent of their desire and capability. The MassFAS Development Associate position will work with the Mass. FASD State Coordinator to develop resources to start and sustain massFAS as an independent, not-for-profit initiative.

The MassFAS Development Associate will assist in writing proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects.

NOTE: This is 9 hour/week consultant position and a one year, grant-funded position. Future employment is contingent upon successful resource development outcomes, as indicated above.

Mass. FASD State Coordinator

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for assisting in the full range of activities required to prepare and submit grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources.
  • Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants.
  • Provide stewardship to current donors, including work with Grants and Research Manager to provide regular written updates (newsletters etc) to corporate and foundation donors.
  • Understanding of institutional history and programs.
  • Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting.
  • Track statistics relevant to development and provide department with written materials necessary for donor stewardship (visitor number and diversity, educational program attendance, etc).
  • Work with Mass. FASD State Coordinator to provide development input for all written institutional materials (including Annual Report, Member magazine).
  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested
  • Assist Mass. FASD State Coordinator in the application for massFAS to become a NOFAS affiliate.

  • Minimum of two years’ experience with grant writing, proposal writing and institutional donors.
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising information sources.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
  • Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and experience working in deadline-driven environments.
  • Able to monitor and meet income goals.
  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Strong editing skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong contributor in team environments
